Meet Nancy Klamm

Certified Funeral Celebrant & Final Arrangement Consultant

I began “Digging into the Death Topic” after I moved back to Kansas City to help my aging parents. There, I began the learning curve on home health for seniors, assisted living, and the daily demands of the elderly. I was approached about a career in a funeral home and cemetery, and it seemed like the natural next step.

This career provided the opportunity to work with families who had just been through a loss. I worked with Funeral Directors who arranged funerals for people who needed services for someone who just passed, the industry calls this “At Need.”  I began working on the Preneed Funeral.  This allows people to make their arrangements ahead of time, without the emotion and stress of a recent death.  It locks in their price, and they can make their own choices. I learned everyone had a story. Some sad, some funny, some painful, some pitiful. It was then that I decided everyone needed to have their story told.

As a Funeral Celebrant/Officiant, I provide personalized service and a meaningful message for families wanting to share life’s adventures and stories. There can be religious undertones, prayers, or appropriate rituals. There can be celebrations, parties, or gatherings in informal surroundings. Each service is unique and created from stories shared by the family or by yourself if you plan ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • A funeral director is responsible for coordinating and overseeing funeral services. They transport and handle all the logistics with the body. They gather all pertinent information for the Death Certificate, including getting the Death Certificate. They oversee the arrangements with the family and coordinate the service with church or celebrant, and contact the cemetery for timing of burial, inurnment or entombments.

  • Once the funeral director determines what sort of ceremony the family wants to have, they contact the appropriate church and clergy If there is a certain denomination the family wishes to honor the deceased with, the FD will try their best to find a member of clergy from that denomination that will provide the required rituals. Usually, there are several pastors who work with funeral homes they are able to call upon to deliver a message to the grieving.

  • A funeral celebrant can be a non-religious professional who conducts funeral ceremonies. They meet with families to create a story of the deceased's life. They will deliver the unique elements that honor a person's legacy by telling stories or anecdotes of the deceased. Some celebrants will include religious elements in the ceremony if the family requests it.
